Marlborough Mid-Week : January 28th 2015
6 MARLBOROUGH MIDWEEK, JANUARY 28, 2015 Fancy feline to aid hospice By ANGELA CROMPTON A cat with a ‘‘lovely nature’’ but perhaps a ‘‘bit arrogant’’ will be auctioned in Blenheim on Monday. Named Hospicia, the painted terracotta cat is the creation of Blenheim craftswoman Coral Thiel, who will donate all proceeds to Hospice Marlborough. Services at the Blenheim palli- ative care centre rely heavily on public support, Coral and husband Tony Thiel said. Both are jazz musicians and have often supported the hospice by donating a portion of ticket sales from their live music shows to the service. Art is a growing passion for jazz vocalist and percussionist Coral and the February 2 auction is being held at the opening of her month-long exhibition at Framers on Queens in Blenheim. ‘‘Krazy kats’’ like Hospicia are a common feature in her paintings. Coral calls them‘‘creations in colour’’ and has even composed a poem to describe how she makes them. The lines include: ‘‘Draw a circle, colour it blue Triangles are good fun to do, too From oblongs you can make a square Ovals can go anywhere For sale: Hospicia, a female terracotta cat.
