NEWS MARLBOROUGH MIDWEEK, FEBRUARY 18, 2015 15 Jill celebrates 25 years at Redwood By HELEN HILL Jill Checkley’s 25 years residence at Redwood Lifestyle Care and Village was celebrated with a party last Thursday. Staff and other residents joined forces to make a small presentation to Jill, who turned 85 in January. Activities co-ordinator Ang Stanton says 25 years is the longest any resident had lived at the village. Jill, who grew up in Blen- heim, had a serious accident when she was a pre-schooler and lost a leg. She never married, and lived for a long time with her late brother Jack. Latterly she was a resident at the IHC home which was redeveloped into the present elderly care home. Ang says Jill likes to sit in the lounge or the day room and keep an eye on what’s going on around her. Jill is a stylish dresser, having her hair done every week, and loves finishing it off with fancy hair clips. She has a collection of all colours to match her clothes, along with costume jewellery, and a new set of clips was given to her at the party. Until about three years ago Jill was mobile with the help of an artificial leg and a walking frame, but now she uses a wheelchair. She likes to be taken in the chair for a walk around the gardens and she often goes for outings in the van. Indoors, Jill enjoys a game of housie and likes listening to music.
